Support BSB and THON...For the Kids
THON is quickly approaching on February 17th. Beta Sigma Beta is one of THON’s biggest supporters, last year raising over $67,500. THON truly exemplifies what Beta Sigma Beta and Penn State stand for, and we hope to raise even more money For The Kids this year. Unfortunately, due to the recent events here at Penn State and inclement whether conditions, some of our largest fundraisers have been canceled. After the unfortunate event of Joe Paterno's passing, many supporters began to donate flowers and gifts. Instead, the Paterno family asked in lieu of gifts, to donate money to THON or the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Joe Paterno, an icon of Penn State, did not desire anything but to ensure the happiness and well-being of everyone else. This would be a great honor for our Penn State community to come together and achieve great heights in this fundraiser.

Remembering Dave Casnoff '75
By Steve Gilbert '73
I’ve got some sad news to pass along to those brothers who have not yet heard. My close friend and our fraternity brother David Casnoff '75 passed away in his sleep on November 3. He lived with his wife Cheryl and their two dogs, Teddy and Kerry, in Davidsonville, Maryland, just outside of Annapolis. David spent more time living in the house than most of us. He not only spent his years as an undergraduate living in the house but also his year as a graduate student when he received his master’s degree. Two weeks before David passed away, we had played golf at our club. I shot my usual 103 while David shot a 78. David was a frequent golf partner of mine and it was his best round since I had played golf with him as an undergraduate. As many of you may remember David was a “scratch” golfer in those days.

Somewhere, Cazz is Making the Grass Greener
By Mark Cohen '76
I lost track of Cazz several years ago having last seen him at one of my kid's bar-bat mitzvahs.I always figured that I would run into him again, perhaps at a homecoming tailgate or in a buffet line at a wedding or other occasion. We'd reminisce about the good times at PSU and maybe I could get some useful lawn care advice. I would no doubt slip in a few ranks about his sweater, the blue and cream saddle shoes or his dog Sheba.

Finding Comfort in Our Community

“In a cold world, you still need your friends to keep you warm.” (The Big Chill, 1983)
As we say goodbye to Coach Paterno, Penn Staters everywhere can take comfort in friends and in the deep sense of community that we are so fortunate to enjoy as Penn State alumni. Looking back, Joe played a role in the best times of our lives – from tailgating to Bowl trips to games at Beaver Stadium.
For many of us, they still continue to this day. Joe’s passing reminds us of what is most important in life: our lifelong connections to those who mean the most, including our KDR
brothers.
There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate being a part of the Penn State community with the friends you met there:
THON – February 17-19. You can honor Joe’s wish (a fraternity guy himself) by making a donation to this great cause.
7th Annual We Are... - April 14
Parents Weekend - April 13-15
Blue/White Weekend – April 20-22
Arts Fest – July 12-15

Remember when you graduated and painted your name and pledge number on the boiler room wall? It was to be there for all eternity. But alas, after a few years, a new graduate would inscribe his identity over yours!
Now, your inscription can be as lasting as our dear fraternity house with the purchase of Beta Sig Legacy Pavers. And the best part is that the purchase of your Legacy Paver will help our house grow even stronger. The Beta Sig Legacy Patio is a great addition to the house. Order your Legacy Paver today!
