Steven Witten is a director of RSM McGladrey, Inc’s. (“RSM McGladrey”) Forensic Financial and Investigative Services Group having joined RSM McGladrey after several years in litigation and insurance consulting with another international firm.

Steve has had substantial experience serving as a consultant, a Covell expert and/or an expert witness in a variety of cases involving fraud investigations, contract, shareholder and post transactional disputes and zone of insolvency, insurance coverage, surety and professional liability issues, including banking and brokerage house issues. Steve has also provided forensic, due diligence and turnaround services to companies involved in manufacturing and distribution. It should also be noted that prior to becoming a consultant Steve spent three years as the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Operations for two multi-line insurance agencies.

He has over 20 years of experience in public accounting and consulting and 8 years of experience in private industry. He has gained this knowledge while servicing the manufacturing, distribution, service, construction, real estate and retail industries. Steve has used his expertise to assist attorneys, banks and insurers.

Steve currently serves as the Beta Alumni Association’s treasurer. He graduated in May 1978. He is married and has two boys, Michael and David. Michael is a freshman at Penn State this year. David is in eighth grade. He and his wife Sue will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this October.

Shawn, a native New Yorker, became a Beta Sig in the fall of 2001. As a Beta Sigma Beta brother, he served as Rush Chair, House Caterer, IFC Delegate, Philanthropy Chair and House Secretary. Shawn graduated from the Schreyer Honors College in 2005 with a B.A. in Political Science (magna cum laude) with Honors and a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude). Shawn was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 2005.

While at Penn State, Shawn was a recipient of the Society of Distinguished Alumni Scholarship, the University Trustees Scholarship, a Department of Economics Research Grant, the Terry Hayes Endowment in Political Science Grant, and a Schreyer Ambassador Grant. Upon graduation, Shawn accepted a position as an Americorps fellow with the American Red Cross. He spent the year living and working in various disaster relief shelters throughout the United States (including New Orleans and Key West). Upon completion of his Americorps term, he interned for the Coalition on the International Criminal Court.

In 2006, Shawn enrolled at New York University School of Law, where he is presently finishing up his final year of studies. During his first year as a law student, Shawn operated as a Special Advisor to the Palau Permanent Mission to the United Nations. During the summer of 2007, he received the Hague Conference on Private International Law Fellowship to help draft treaties on behalf of the Hague Conference. During this past summer, Shawn worked in both the London and New York offices of Shearman & Sterling, LLP in both the Mergers & Acquisitions group and the Derivatives group. He has recently accepted an offer to begin working in the London office of Shearman & Sterling, LLP in the fall of 2009. Presently, he is a Stern Teaching Fellow at NYU's Stern School of Business and a clinical student at the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York (Organized Crime Division).

Matt Rutter

Matthew Rutter was a member of Beta Sigma Beta's Fall 2003 pledge class. An accounting major, Matthew completed degree requirements in three years achieving high distinction and Dean's list all semesters. As a brother he served as THON chair, overseeing a 10 fold increase in total revenues, Vice Chancellor for a brief term, and managed house finances as auditor for three semesters. For academic and leadership achievement he was awarded the fraternity's Beta Foundation Leadership Scholarship and the university-awarded Lester A. Shonto Accounting Merit Scholarship.

Professionally, Matthew interned for Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Capital Advisory, a firm named for Beta Sigma Beta brother Simon Ziff. The following year he began his post-collegiate career at Ernst & Young LLP. After starting in Real Estate Audit, Matthew transitioned to a Tax Advisory role, guiding clients in their pursuit of economical environmental stewardship. He is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED-AP) and has met requirements to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York. Matthew has been designated to lead Ernst & Young's Green initiatives in Ernst & Young's Northeast region.
